Co-Op

I recently heard of a produce co-op here in the Arid Zone state, it is called Bountiful Baskets. I signed up for a basket of produce, paying $17 for non-organic (the organic is $25 and the drop offs were not in my range at the moment) produce.

This morning was our pick up. I stood in a short line waiting for my turn, and gladly filled my laundry basket with, what felt like, forty pounds of fresh produce. There was a little extra, and we were instructed to take one more item from the boxes. I asked Rhayn if she wanted more green beans of broccoli, she chose the green beans but we were told to just take both.

Smiling and thankful, we left the warehouse with:
2 bunches of broccoli
2 bags of green beans
1 bunch of spinach
1 head of romaine lettuce
1 celery (is it a head, too?)
2 onions
10 red potatoes
5 oranges
4 limes
7 peaches
4 black velvet apricots
1 musk melons (or cantaloupe)
1 bag of tasty seedless, red grapes
1 quart of cherry tomatoes
(I know that this picture features a few extra items- like two russet potatoes and a sweet Texas onion that were already living in the drawer waiting to be used. I meant to take a picture of the laundry basket filled with tasty produce, but I was so excited when we got home that I started washing it and putting it away before I realized I had forgotten to take the picture!)

I am hoping to spread the word about this co op and possibly get an organic drop off near Rhayn's school. I think that it would really benefit the families there as well.

Oh my, I just started this today as well and was just about to post a pic on my blog. Isn't it great!!! I am so excited about it. We did organic and though you get less, it is still a GREAT deal. We are lucky to have a drop off close by. I am LOVING this! :)
